It can be daunting asking for help, especially when the problem is alcohol, but millions of people consult their doctor about their alcohol problems every year. They are very used to the problem, and should be able to refer you to specialist help.
Your G.P. may be your first port of call. Don’t be put off going because you need a drink first - again, they are used to seeing people with all sorts of problems (which is the reason they are kept so busy!) so have a drink if it is a necessity.
There are many organizations that exist to help people with alcohol problems, and their families. You may want to look in the Yellow Pages under “Counselling & Advice” and also “Clinics”.
You can call the Samaritans: 08457 90 90 90, or email : jo@samaritans.org
